(post by Marissa) About a month ago, I received in the mail a Gift Certificate to the Woodhouse Day Spa from a friend who I grew up with in New Jersey and could not attend the baby shower. She figured the baby was already spoiled and mom-to-be needed a little pampering!! This gift came on the perfect day because we were approaching a January 31st deadline and work was getting a little out of hand. So the thought of a nice relaxing day at the spa made my WEEK! Thank you again Lyndsey! Previous to the Woodhouse Spa opening last Septemeber, Lubbock was lacking a good spa. There wasn't really a really nice place for my mom and I to go and pedicures and stuff. Anyways, I got a Pedicure and a Manicure on Saturday and it was EXCELLENT! When you arrive, you go to a quiet room and have a drink and some chocolate covered strawberries and relax before your treatment. During the manicure, you still sit in the pedicure type chair and they soak your feet and give you a peppermint neck wrap. It is an actual spa. The prices are also very reasonable and comparable to just a really good manicure and pedicure. I had a gift certificate so of course that made it all the nicer!
I couldn't get the full deep foot massage, but guess what I have booked for my mom and I in March......A DAY AT THE SPA. I told the lady who did my pedicure that next time she can put me in labor!! My mom says it's really good to be relaxed before labor. And I think we'll both need it. So I'm getting a pedicure, manicure, facial, and massage. I want to be glowing in the hospital and I don't know why but I'm very weird about having nice feet when I'm in labor. And she is getting a Massage and Pedicure. My mom thinks 1 hr massages are a tease so while I'm getting a massage and facial she'll be getting a massage the whole time. Also, my mom already gets her nails done so she is getting a 1.5 Pedicure while I do my mani/pedi. She is probably going to need a nap afterwards...She is always dead after the spa!
So to any man that got this far...CONGRATULATIONS. Now, here is a secret. A manicure and pedicure does more for a woman than a whole shopping spree. (Think Legally Blonde) I feel like a new woman after I have my nails and toes all pretty. So a great gift is a gift certificate for a manicure and pedicure. She will come home in a great mood because unlike shopping she didn't look fat in any outfit, she didn't spend more than intended, she didn't have to fight the crowds or traffic, and she didn't overeat (like at a lunch date)! I love them!! Little Ava and I will go get them together when she gets a little bigger like my mom and I do! It is great girl bonding time. No distractions, purely relaxing, and everyone feels great afterwards. After a mani/pedi all of a sudden your old clothes look good again and your ring is a little shinier and your toes look great in those Espadrilles!

Miss, I love this post. It made me laugh and is all sooooo true! Nothing makes me feel better than a pedi. Both of my labors were scheduled and I actually really liked that because I was able to go to the hospital with legs freshly shaved, toes painted and pretty, and make-up on--looking like a million bucks. It was so nice to have hospital pics that were cute.
I'm so glad you were able to do that! I've only had 3 pedicures my whole life and they've each been right before I've given birth. My 4th will be this April;)
Those pregnancy treatments are the best!!! I had a couple of massages before Connor was born and my massure/friend did an amazing job!! Not knowing what you're getting into with Birth is very stressful... at least with mine... so relax while you can... and for sure ask them to rub in the right places with your pedicure and make sure you relax..It always helped with my swollen legs. At my salon we had a couple of different Masques for the feet and I always got the Minty/Methol Masque. It helped cool and unswell(I don't know if that's a word.) my feet. It will also help your ..... relax and contract naturally! I believe there are certain things that actually help with the labor process! But Relaxing is definatly one of them and if you can do it then props to you!! Enjoy the Treatments, I'm sure you deserve it!
I love getting them too and the last you will be worried about is your feet during labor - That's what I would be thinking, however, from getting to know you, I think you WOULD be worried about it haha! So it will be so nice to have one less worry!
Everyone has a lot of comments on this haha - but here is my story - my hubby gave me a HUGE gift card to a day spa the year before we got pregnant. I kept thinking I want it right after I have the baby. And by then it had expired. I didn't even think about because of the whole momnesia/pregnancy brain. 2 years later and I still regret it. How stupid am I?!! That was a great post, Marissa!
Ooooo... I'm going to send Ben a link to this!!
This was really funny, and so true!
