Invention

(post by Marissa) So the thing I hear a lot about and am dreading the most is baby blowouts. I can hardly even type the word. Anyways, I have been thinking of all sorts of ideas to try and prevent these things. I thought to put a plastic diaper cover over the diaper. However, I am told it will still not work. Anyways, my latest invention came to me early Sunday morning. I even woke Steve up to tell him what I think we need. He has since modified part of the invention. So here it is....

Could they make a onesy (sp?) that is cotton on the part that touches the baby's skin, but a waterproof material on the part that touches his/her other clothing. So then it is soft still for the baby but won't go throug to the baby's clothing or even worse ME!

Steve's modification: Just have the waterproof type material in the middle. Both the part touching the baby and part that touches the baby's regular clothes will be the cotton.

Anyways, this is just my latest idea? What do you think? Should I sell my idea to Carter's? Or better yet, should I try and make them? I feel like there should be something out there already. Maybe there aren't enough people who think about this quite as much as me or dread it ...maybe everyone else just accepts it and moves on....

Hopefully you'll be as lucky as me and not have to deal with it at all!! Neither Will nor Anna ever had a 'blowout' situation. At least not that I can remember! But yeah, the invention is a good idea!

Good invention--but for me, I forget about it and move on! Stone had several blowouts as a new born, but really, you just get used to it. It's dreadful and disgusting to think about before you have a child, but like everything else that is gross, it's all worth it when you finally have the baby, and it seems to matter less, if at all (the spit up on the nice blouse, the poop that leaks through onto Cliff's church pants in Sacrament meeting, etc. ha). And that's not me being all sentimental, that's just the fact. You take the good with the bad, and you love it all. :)

I second Kendal's comment. You really do just get used to it and get over it. Well, it's still gross to deal with, but with a new baby there are all sorts of new things that you have to learn to deal with and that is just one of them. And a more minor one. Don't worry about it - you'll figure out what you need to do, and if there's something you need to modify about what you or baby wear so you don't have to worry about the effects of the blowout, then you'll do it and it will be just fine. In the meantime, if you find yourself some waterproof material to modify some onesies, you're more than welcome to use my sewing machine. It's lying dormant and could use a friend. :)

I have NEVER gotten used to the nasty things mommies have to deal with and clean as soon as they welcome a little person into their family.

The invention could totally work, however since you live in Texas and it gets quite hot there for many months a year it may not be as practical there. I wish there was a magic button that you could push that would handle all of the yucky tasks you have to deal with as a parent. Oh wait. There is such a thing, only it's not a magic button. It is called a nanny. I gotta get me one of those. ;)

Your idea sounds great in theory but the baby would probably swelter in something like that. You'd have to bathe the baby constantly to get the yucky sweat/smell off. I just used disposable diaper pads under them in the carseat, crib or wherever I laid them if I was really worried about it. I'd also use the cloth diapers on me and under them when I would hold them at church or wherever I didn't have a change of clothes. I'm sure you'll be fine though. It really doesn't happen that often.

Yeah, that idea sounds good but you are forgetting about the times it can go all the way up the back. (That is in extreme cases, though.) Honestly, I only remember Bent having 5-6 of those in all his milk-drinking days. Very rarely did it get on me, but I have to agree with Kendall & Kat. They are just a part of parenthood. Someone once told me to always (weather-permitting) put a onsie on, especially when they are wearing their cute or church clothes. It just makes it one more layer of protection.

No matter what, you are going to get poop on your hands, clothes, blanket, or carpet at least once. It is bound to happen, but I like your creative mind. You won't mind as much when it happens because usually babies stop fussing and crying after they drop a load. Just always have lots of extras on hand.

so my conclusion is a lot of you moms just accept it and move on..however, steve says im a little different so we'll see waht happens with me..also, i will let you know how i handle these little scenarios! most ppl would think my mom would have let things go with 11 kids, but i kid you not we cleaned more than anyone in the world! i mean we had to vacuum 3x a day so i think i partly inherited a disease! a messy house can get her in a bad mood faster than anything else! she has somewhat now relaxed but that is only after being a mom for 38 years...

There was this thing in ancient times, (before the invention on disposable diapers) called Plastic Pants. Definitely stopped the leaks. (your Mom can fill in the details.)

yes good luck with that :) yes we do accept it however, from what I have heard, you are lucky you are having a girl - they don't play with it nearly as much the boys do :) I'm kidding, it has happened once that west has done that and I've heard that girls are just too grossed out. But you know what if there were something to prevent it, that would be great so don't give up on it!

Thanks for making me laugh. :) I guess I was one of those who just accepted it and moved on. :) The good news is, it really doesn't happen that often; at least for me it didn't. Kylie had one that I can remember, but luckily daddy got that one. :) I think other moms (or on our caes dads) would have loved your invention. :)

Wow...big typo! I should really read my comments over b/f publishing them. :) I meant to say that *in our case dads* would have loved your invention. Sorry!

I remember Annabelle having one blowout. Luckily she was in her car seat...so we just took the cover off of her car seat and washed it. It is gross, but you will be amazed what you can put up with. I can probably change a dirty diaper and eat a pb&j sandwich at the same time. You just get used to it! :)

I know I've already commented, but now that I've thought more about it I say try it out. Let me know if it works for you so I can use it for our next baby! And by the time mine comes you will have 3 monhts experience under your belt!

Seriously.. if you're only worried about it getting every where that's one thing... the smell is the other... sometimes.. not to be to gross. but for Connor the smallest little turds are the Smelliest!!!! so it's either one or the other... For us the worst times have been when Connor is teething and it's only for a week or less but that stuff.. Wow. you have to be on it at all times.. it's like watery poo. Yuck! I cringe everytime I change a stinky one! Just keep the febreeze close by!!:) And Desitin helps kill the smell a little.. I like it.

The onesie will have to go down to their knees because the poop always gets out around the legs. Also, don't worry too much, you might get lucky. Cam didn't hardly have very many blowouts at all! But I was very careful with his food and my food since he is lactose intolerant. Maybe blowouts happen from certain foods.
Also, one thing that helps prevent poop smooshing out is make sure the onesies aren't too tight otherwise the poop has no where to go except up the back!! Beautiful. Also make sure diapers are big enough for the same reason. Upgrade to the next size sooner than later.

My kids were contantly blowing out and it mostly would go up their back... so, I think it's a great idea as long as the fabric is absorbant enough and goes up the back, too.
You are so funny! :)
