Get A Steamer, Lose the Cleaner!

(post by Marissa) Ever since I learned about my friend who cleans everything with a steamer, I wanted one. When we moved to our new house, I had a whole pile of things I needed to take to the dry cleaners due the wrinkly state of the items. I took about 12 items and it was 60 bucks. No big deal except I had about 20 more items that still needed to go. So here I had a bunch more clothes sitting in my closet I could not wear until they were pressed by the dry cleaners. (I guess I could have worn them and looked terrible, but I am kind of anti wrinkle! I iron my undershirts!)

I thought this is so stupid that I have to take all of my clothes to the cleaners just so they can be pressed. They were not dirty and some were even new. So I decided to try out a steamer. For 50 bucks, I figured it would pay for itself that day by steaming everything that could not be ironed. I was right. I took it home, plugged it in and went to work. I steamed several dresses, suits, and blouses. I highly recommend purchasing a steamer for in-between cleanings. (Are you sold yet?..if not keep reading...you will be in a minute!)

Steam is the gentlest, safest, most efficient method to remove wrinkles from fabrics. The powerful action of garment steamers penetrates the fibers, relaxes them and causes the wrinkles to release. Unlike ironing, the gentle method of steaming increases the life of clothing. Garment steamers breathe new life into fabrics; conversely, ironing crushes clothing fibers. The fibers are not destroyed at all! I prefer steaming when I can now because it leaves a new look to the clothing. You will not completely eliminate your dry cleaner, but you will cut down on the bills and get more use out of a cleaning by doing in-between steamings! (Are you sold now?)

Beyond Clothing: I steamed my bedding to get some of the sleeping wrinkles out. You can steam your kid’s toys to sanitize them and much more. (before and after pics to come to further convince the purchase!)

I LOVE STEAMERS!!! I had to use a steamer for work for a couple of years, and once I got the hang of it (learning how to use the machine without getting steam burns on my arms - yikes!), I loved it. It's actually on my Christmas list for this year, strangely enough, so it's good to know there are other steamer fans out there.

I love steamers! My parents have one and use it to mop their tile floors. It works so much better than the old mop & bucket. I've always wanted one but never bought one. Where'd you get yours and what kind is it?
