(post by Marissa) This question was on MSN.com and I have mixed opinions. I used to always check everything so I would only have my purse. Now, however, I prefer to carryon so nothing gets lost and I don't have to deal with baggage claim. My Vera Bradley can hold about a week's worth of stuff, no joke! Of course, there is the problem if you are going for 2 weeks somewhere. Also, with kids I think I will def. be checking everything and have everything in bags that zip for any carryon items the kiddos need! The last thing I want to do is lug around my stuff and my kid's stuff so I'll let the airlines handle that.
So which do you prefer, checking?

or carrying on?

I know what you mean about checking in bags--they are bound to be lost sooner or later. However, when you carry on a weeks worth of clothing it means you have to lug it around with you on all the layovers (every flight includes a layover if flying out of good ol' lubbock). Thus, I have to say CHECK IT!! However, if there's no layover and there's a small carry on bag--no worries just carry that darn thing on.
I'm going to say check it, too. I cannot stand the people who spend twenty minutes trying to get a huge bag in a tiny compartent. And then going through that proccess again after the plane lands. And having to cart my luggage AND children around a busy airport (not to mention bathrooms) does not sound ideal to me.
I've been lucky and have never had my luggage lost. It's bound to happen to me sometime. Either that or I'm really lucky.
Well, seeing as you now have to PAY to check baggage! But then you can't carry anything on liquid larger than 2.5 ozs (or whatever). We're stuck between and rock and a hard place. I usually check because I always have a huge bag--I can imagine I would like to carry on if my stuff would fit on board! You know what will happen now is the overhead bins are going to start getting so full not everyone's things will fit and people will be forced to check anyway!
I would rather take a carry on, but traveling with kids you get to do both. That is something you have to look forward too. That and full day kindergarten, sorry. By the way, your summer looked like fun.
Actually, at this phase in life I actually prefer driving to doing the airport shuffle, but if I fly then I'm all about checking everything possible since I already have enough to carry on with Ben and Adam and all of their gear, including a stroller to survive the layovers that are inevitable if you're flying out of Lubbock (as mentioned by Cori). See, with driving you don't have to worry about the lost luggage and you can get your wiggles out whenever you want and you don't get stuck in an airport in Denver for a week.
I'm definately a check girl. I love the freedom I feel once I've handed the luggage over. Of course if I was traveling w/o kids I would carry on!
Most of my stuff that's really important I keep on me anyways, and I know I could replace everything when I get where ever anyways. Actually now that I think about it... it would be nice to buy all new stuff if it got lost! :)
