Waterboarding: Is it Torture?
(post by Steve) If you've been following the election, you understand that John McCain has won New Hampshire and South Carolina. Some think he is now the front-runner, even though Romney has won twice as many delegates. There is some truth to this because the winner of South Carolina, since 1980, has gone on to win the Republican nomination. But this election has been unique, and it's still too early to tell. Huckabee no longer has a chance because he's proven he can't win any votes other than the evangelical vote. By the way, despite what the media says, Romney would still have doubled the lead in Nevada, even without the LDS vote.
Anyways, back to waterboarding and McCain. McCain supposedly is the foreign policy expert, and it works to his advantage when Iraq is the top issue. I can't understand the reason for this. He recently told the Nation that he would go to the gates of Hell to get Osama Bin Laden. Tell me, then, McCain why you are against waterboarding? There's no pain, no suffering, no marks or scars, and the prisoner recovers in a matter of seconds. Waterboarding's main mechanism is fear. When water is poured on their face in their nose, they can't breathe and get that drowning sensation. Apparently, it only takes a couple minutes to get someone to start talking. Even a Fox News anchor volunteered to go through the whole process to show how effective it is (after experiencing the process, he believed it was the best way to get enemies to talk without making them feel pain). What exactly does going to the gates of Hell involve? Long hard questioning and interrogation? OOOOOh, I'm sure the terrorists are shaking in their boots.
In every state now, exit polls show that the economy is the first and foremost issue. This will only help Romney and hurt McCain. Hopefully, the voters in Florida believe the same thing.
