(post by Marissa) So, I am going to try and have a recommended read of the week. This week it is "Thousand Splendid Suns." It will make you appreciate your life so much and the way women are treated here in America. There is a whole other world out there that so few people know about. I know a lot of you have finished the series by Stephanie Meyers and need a new book, so here is one. I got it at our local library. It is excellent. I also think it would be an excellent book club read as there will surely be an emotional/passionate conversation on this book.

I just finished this one too! I loved it. It made me feel so blessed to be a woman with freedom. I think the most poignant part of the book for me was when the doctor took off her burqa to deliver the baby (an offense punishable by severe beating) It just made me realize how difficult it must have been for women to go from a society with relative freedoms to one with none.
My mom brought me this book over Christmas to read but I had her take it back for now since I didn't want to read a sad book while I was transitioning to being a new mom. Enough emotional changes there!
